Living a healthy life shouldn’t require a degree in nutrition, health or fitness.

Sharing what I’m learning during my exploration of health, wellness and living a more meaningful life.

We're Going Downtown (Boathouse)

We're Going Downtown (Boathouse)

A little fun fact about me: I used to be really into couponing...yes as in TLC Extreme Couponing. I even had one of those coupon binders that I took to the grocery store--no regrets. So you know I'm not exaggerating when I say I love a good deal. Luckily, living in New York, there are a million ways to have fun and get a little exercise on a budget. Labor Day Weekend, some of the girls and I headed out to the Downtown Boathouse for a morning of free kayaking. The Boathouse is in Tribeca, so if you can get past getting splashed by water from the Hudson (so gross), you can soak up the amazing views of lower Manhattan and Jersey City while getting a little cardio in.

Here are a few tips from my experience:

You Will Get Wet

Unlike a canoe, you're basically sitting on top of the water so your pants/shorts and shoes will get wet. Bring flip flops or go barefoot and if you have plans after, I would bring a change of clothes. (They have lockers and let you borrow locks to store your personal belongings while you kayak).

Underwater Cameras

Like I said, you will get splashed. If you want to take photos while on the water, I recommend bringing a waterproof disposable camera (they still make those right)? This isn't the best time to find out if your waterproof iPhone case works, so play it safe while snapping fun photos with your gang.

Pair Off

Everything is better with a friend! They offer single and double kayaks, so bring enough friends so you're able to pair up and go out together.
